HOUSE FOR 5 "We are two Belgians in love with Portugal, and we have been living here since 2014. Renovating, decorating, creating beautiful and welcoming spaces — this is our passion. Welcoming guests and sharing what we love — this is our happiness. With Casa da Bica Olhão, these two passions have become one. The house dates back to the early 20th century. It was once a fisherman’s home — a type of dwelling deeply rooted in Olhão’s identity, with its whitewashed façades highlighted in blue, its clean lines and cubic forms that make this town in the lower Algarve so unique. The façade azulejos, made by the Fábrica de Sacavém, are a touch of Portuguese history. The blue of the house echoes Olhão’s favourite colour, and the Santa Catarina floor tiles, handmade in a local factory about fifteen kilometres away, anchor each room in the region’s craftsmanship. Inside, natural light flows generously, ceilings are high, and the materials are warm and carefully chosen. We wanted a home where you feel at ease from the very first moment — neither overly decorative nor overly minimalist. A home with a soul, which you can make your own for the duration of your stay. On the rooftop, the plunge pool opens onto a panorama of white rooftops and blue sky — the typical view of Olhão, suspended between land and sea. Three terraces punctuate the house, each with its own character: the ground-floor patio for fresh mornings, the first-floor terrace for reading in the shade, and the rooftop for endless evenings. Olhão is a town that visitors still too often pass through quickly, but those who stop rarely want to leave. The covered market, the ferries to the islands of the Ria Formosa, the fresh fish restaurants — all of it is just a few minutes’ walk away. It is a lively, working, authentic town. Exactly as we love it." - Frank & Véronique
