Calle 49 #239B, Sisal, Valladolid, Yucatan, Mexico
Hidden within Valladolid’s historic Sisal neighborhood, Casa Gruta is a remarkable architectural retreat inspired by the caves and cenotes that shape the landscape of the Yucatán Peninsula. Conceived as a habitable sculpture, the house blends sculptural concrete forms, vaulted spaces, and natural light to create an atmosphere that feels both grounding and otherworldly. Designed around a series of intimate courtyards and open-air spaces, the home accommodates up to six guests across three private bedroom suites, each offering its own relationship with nature. One features an outdoor bathtub and shower, another opens onto a peaceful garden, while the largest unfolds around a private courtyard anchored by a circular outdoor bathtub. At the center of the house, a dramatic communal living space combines the kitchen, dining area, and lounge beneath soaring concrete vaults, creating a natural gathering place between moments of solitude. A swimming pool, rooftop terrace, and carefully framed views further connect the experience to its surroundings. More than a place to stay, Casa Gruta offers an immersive architectural experience for travelers drawn to design, privacy, and a deeper connection to the unique atmosphere of Yucatán.
