GÎTE FOR RENT UP TO 5 PEOPLE - "For several years, we searched for a region where we could settle and create a welcoming place in our own image. At the foot of the Vercors, we fell in love with the Trièves, a mid-mountain territory that is at once secret, spectacular, and extraordinarily vibrant. The old farmhouse within which the gîte Les Écailles is located is a 19th-century building constructed on the heights of a hill, at the heart of a tiny hamlet, offering a panoramic view over the surrounding massifs of the Dévoluy and the Haut-Diois. We converted the gîte from an old stable, wishing to keep its history visible. The objects that inhabit this space come from encounters, travels, and happy accidents. We chose a simple, light, and natural restoration, using wood, hemp, linen, and earth. With the help of architect Hugo Haas, we imagined two sleeping cabins, nestled beneath the whitewashed vaulted ceilings. Beyond them, a vast living room warmed by a wood-burning stove, and a kitchen where an old manger has been transformed into a bookcase. This minimal architecture preserves the space, allows it to breathe, and plays with the poetry of the place. A beautiful glass wall of our own design opens onto the bathroom. The adjoining garden features a table sheltered from the heat by a natural fiber shade canopy, with the mountains as a backdrop." - Katia & Édouard
