50 Rue Pierre Broussain, 64240, Hasparren, France
GUEST HOUSE WITH 2 DOUBLE ROOMS, 2 CONNECTING ROOMS, 2 ADJOINING ROOMS AND 1 STUDIO, OPTION TO PRIVATIZE THE ENTIRE PROPERTY FOR 14 PEOPLE – "La Maison Gamboia takes its historic name from the Basque word meaning 'river bend'. A discreet address located halfway between the ocean and the mountains, just 20 minutes from Bayonne train station and 30 minutes from Biarritz airport. This grand foreman's house with green shutters was conceived as a space for sharing, at the crossroads of accommodation, creation and encounter. The 6 rooms and studio are composed of artworks and collectible art objects, and every window offers a view of the garden or forest. We have favored natural and sustainable materials such as wood, terracotta and linen, with exclusively French manufacturing, largely from the Basque Country. La Maison Gamboia hosts the cultural programming of the association la réciproque, and organizes meetings with artists around ongoing exhibitions in its spaces, showcases artists' editions in its library, screens films in its living room, and presents musical performances in its garden. Amid the flowering meadow, fruit trees and vegetable gardens grow alongside edible, medicinal and dye plants that invite us to imagine culinary experiences with our chefs, naturopaths and herbalists. Breakfast is a cherished moment. You will taste breads and pastries made with local flour, jams from the Aldudes valley, apple juice from the Bastide-Clairence orchard, and dairy products from our neighboring dairy farmer. We are committed to championing those who work to preserve peasant and organic farming in the region. For evening meals, we offer farm-fresh dishes and a selection of wines from independent winemakers. For your bespoke events, we propose inviting our community connected to the visual, performing and literary arts, culinary arts, craft, design, as well as topics related to landscape, botany and wellness. A few steps from the house, on the market square of Hasparren, you can meet local artisans and stroll through the hilly streets lined with half-timbered houses, ancient Basque farmhouses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The small town of Hasparren is nestled at the foot of Mount Ursuya. In the surrounding area, you can access hiking and walking or cycling trails with views of the Pyrenees mountain range. You can paraglide on Mont Baigura or go rafting and canoeing at Bidarray, and swim in mountain springs and rivers. The town is close to the thermal baths of Cambo-les-Bains, where the house of writer Edmond Rostand is located, not far from the artisan village of Bastide Clairence and the prehistoric caves of Oxocellaya. In 30 minutes, you can reach the Camino de Santiago from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, or the Spanish Basque Country via Ainhoa or Sare, enchanting villages rich in legends." - Célia - Photos: © Emmy Martens
